Business cards are a business tool for physicians. When talking about business cards and medicine, we have to bear in mind: business cards that doctors order and business cards an institution orders for its professionals' team. In the latter case, cards can be for physicians or also for nurses, aides, assistants, and technicians.
Business cards ordered by individuals: When a doctor asks for a business card, this should be an introduction and also a reminder. Doctors' introduction through their business cards is practically the same as any other's. Their aim is to inform the recipient about the doctor's full name, his specialty and position. As a reminder -its most important role: as a business tool-, doctors hand out their cards to patients so that they remember their doctor, have his contact numbers, and maybe the emergency numbers too. Emergency numbers can be used to contact the physician when he is not available in his practice and the patient needs to visit him immediately, ask him something that cannot be postponed, or contact him in case of an accident and needs the doctor to supervise his treatment, admission or check on his transferal.
Business cards ordered by an institution: These are used so that all the medical institution's professionals have the same kind of card. Thus, the medical center also gets advertising through the business cards and the fact that certain professionals work there. These cards' function is the same as the one of cards ordered by individuals, but they also have the additional function of advertising the institution. The position of certain physicians is very important in advertising. A well-known professional, both by people in the medical field or by the public, working as head in a certain specialty or director in a certain sector is prestigious for the institution. Probably on these people's business cards, their position will be slightly highlighted.
Business cards' design should be consistent with the other designs. Business cards are always part of the corporate or institutional identity, and they have to conform to its parameters. A business card that diverts from the criterion of the institutional identity's design components is not useful and may even be disadvantageous. What really matters is that the business card's design has to be perfectly consistent with the other designs. This way, business cards harden the institution's identity and gain recognition for sure. This recognition is the recipient's immediate acknowledgment that the card he is given refers to a medical practice or center he already knows. This acknowledgment is due to the use of the institution's Logo and to the design benchmarks from which he subconsciously associates the business card with the institution.
